Lions busy during Quarry Days
Members of the Dell
Rapids Lions Club contributed several hours of community service over
the Quarry Days weekend. They performed free vision screenings for 57
children, referring three of them to eye care professionals for
follow-up examinations.
Club members also
took care of trash in the city park, picking up stray items, hauling
full bags to the dumpsters, and replacing bags in the trash barrels.
"The Quarry Days crowds are pretty tidy," said Lion Marlowe Hovey,
"That makes our job a bit easier."

The South Dakota
Lions Foundation provides a van and computerized camera equipment used
for the vision screening. The special camera must operate in dim light
as it takes measurements on the surface of and inside the eyes.
